Finally. I've been staring at this Sweet Love set from Papertrey for weeks and I finally sat down and created some things with it. I wasn't sure about this set - it's a little romantic in style for my regular taste and I was worried about flexibility. But of course I bought it anyway! I've been happily surprised so far - it can be used for Valentine's Day, anytime love notes, weddings...and the stamps in the set can be used in a variety of ways to create background designs. I actually like this first card I made - I built on the stripes in the patterned paper and went for a layered effect that is supposed to offset the curves in the focal piece.
I took a base of river rock cardstock and used the tone-on-tone technique, stamping the swirls and hearts in river rock classic ink. I then took the strips of true thyme and distressed the edges, layered them and adhered them to the patterned paper. After adhering the papers and strips to the card base I stamped the line of hearts using river rock ink and sponged whisper white craft ink along the distressed edges. Warning: sponging a distressed edge results in the transferring of many bits of paper shavings from distressed edge to sponge to craft ink pad. Not good. I used tweezers to clean it off of my ink pad. Learn from my mistake and don't sponge distressed edges. I inked the sentiment onto the white cardstock using ruby red and true thyme inks, punched it out with my Marvy scalloped oval punch (the largest one...it's purple), added the brads and secured the whole thing to the card base using dimensionals. The final touch was a nod to Nichole Heady @ Papertrey - I rounded only one corner on the card...the bottom right.
Supplies:
Ink: SU whisper white craft, classic river rock, classic ruby red, true thyme
Stamps: Sweet Love by Papertrey Ink
Cardstock: SU river rock, true thyme, SU Ginger Blossom designer paper, Papertrey select white
Other: SU distressing tool, vintage brads, dimensionals
While I had my supplies out I decided to try another version. I used tone-on-tone again (river rock) for the background but used a different stamp. The true thyme strips were pierced and highlighted with faux stitching (white gel pen). I would have added actual stitches except my Janome Sew Mini is on the fritz...yet again. I swear I bought a lemon. I have yet to read that anyone else has a problem with theirs. I've come to the point where I'm going to take it in for service. Luckily I have a great repair shop nearby. Anyway, the focal piece was stamped in ruby red w/the sentiment in true thyme, I used SU vintage brads and adhered it to the card using dimensionals.
Until next time...M
